Electric Motor Design for Robots and Autonomous Systems

Systems Hub / Robotics and Autonomous Systems · 3 Credits

Electric motors consume more than 50% of the electricity generated by humans in modern society, and they have been widely used in robotics and transportation. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of electric motors, including their topologies, mathematical models, operating principles, and advanced manufacturing considerations. Students will learn about the cutting-edge design techniques and tools used in the engineering practice, as well as the key factors that influence the performance of electric motors. Additionally, the course also covers structural optimization, allowing students to develop and optimize electric motors for specific applications, with particular emphasis on robot joint actuator and electrified transportation propulsion motors. By the end of the course, students will have a thorough concept of the design, modeling, and optimization of electric motors, enabling them to make informed decisions in developing high-performance electric motors for robotics and autonomous systems.
