Qualitative Research with Generative AI

This course will provide an overview of qualitative and mixed-methods research for human-centered social and technological studies in the digital era. The course will begin with a discussion of major research methodologies and paradigms. We will delve into research design with mainstream qualitative and mixed methods approaches. The course will then introduce specific techniques for collecting, analyzing, integrating, and reporting human-centered data from multiple sources. They include data collection methods such as interviews and focus groups, and data analysis methods such as thematic analysis. Students will engage in utilizing cutting-edge AI tools and techniques to conduct qualitative research. The main goal is to equip students with relevant knowledge, skills, and awareness of using proper methods in solving research questions in social science studies.
